Jim & Millie Moore
Jim & Millie Moore
Brussels, Belgium
Jim and Millie have faithfully served as missionaries in French-speaking areas of Europe for over 30 years and are currently preparing for retirement in the summer of 2010.
The Moores’ missionary career began in Switzerland (1971-1974). They relocated to Lyons, France in 1974, then to Mulhouse, France in 1985. In 1987 they began a strategic church planting work in Marseilles, France. Fifteen years of missionary labor in this Mediterranean port city also provided Jim with opportunities to reach out to a North African people group.
In 2004, following a period of time when they were seeking the Lord’s leading for the final season of their missionary career, Jim and Millie relocated to Brussels, Belgium. Since then Jim has pastored the Evangelical Free Church of Brussels-Woluwe and trained spiritually qualified leaders for churches in Brussels and in southern French-speaking Belgium.
Residing in the Flemish area of greater Brussels has provided Jim and Millie with doors of opportunity to communicate their love for Christ with French-speaking neighbors and people with whom they do business on a regular basis. They have been able to interact with people using English language as well, since Brussels is a strategic political center of the European Economic Union and the site of NATO Headquarters.
In the final months of their tenure in Europe, Jim and Millie have been able to visit friends in each of the locations where they served as missionaries. Leadership of the Brussels-Woluwe church is transitioning to Jim’s replacement as the Moores pack their belongings and prepare to relocate to the United States at the end of the year. In the final six months of their missionary career they have been making strategic visits to churches with which they have had a relationship in the field. Jim and Millie are planning to settle in Spokane where they will be near two of their adult sons, Jean-Michel and Jerry. Their third son, Jeff, and his family live in South Carolina.
Please be praying for Jim and Millie in their transition from missionary life to retirement. In particular, please pray for:
* A smooth transition in leadership at the Brussels-Woluwe church
* Jim and Millie’s health during the transition
* Clear leading from the Lord as they transition to new ministry roles

Moore News Update – 4-22-2010
Greetings from Spokane, to where we have returned after a great trip to Minneapolis for our mission debriefing. It was a joy to see supporters there too. One couple came all the way from Iowa (a 4 hour trip) to see us; that was really special. It was wonderful seeing supporters who live in the area as well as many of the folks in the home office.
After Minneapolis we went to Kansas City. We were spoiled by one of our supporters and also the church in Ferrelview as we spent 4 nights at the Embassy Suites near the KC airport. Our suite had a separate bedroom and a living room which made it possible for friends and supporters to come from Kansas and Missouri to visit us at the hotel. We were able to show our power point pictures in the living room. That made it easier for Jim as he didn’t have to travel as much that way. Also I was spoiled by a shopping trip, which was great fun.
We leave again this next Tuesday the 27th for Portland and the Oregon coast. We very much look forward to seeing friends and supporters in Portland as well as our supporting church, Rockaway Community Church, on the coast. We return home Sunday evening May 2nd. Unfortunately we will miss Bloomsday (Spokane’s marathon) on the 2nd. John, Jerry, and I “ran” Bloomsday many years ago. Aside from not being here, this year I wouldn’t have been able to do it anyway as I have still been having some trouble with my right hip. (But it would have been fun watching.)
I’ll close for now. Thank you for praying for us as we travel, especially for strength for Jim and that he wouldn’t get too tired out.
In His service,
Jim & Millie

Moore News Update – 12-23-2009
We have arrived in the States and are at Jeff’s in South Carolina! What an adventure we have had for the past week in tying up all the loose ends and leaving Brussels. We are grateful for the Lord’s provision throughout these last days. The moving and loading of the boxes went very well; we had help from about 10 people, including a neighbor who took a half day off work. Jeff was an invaluable aid in the move. He also took pictures of us and different folks at the farewell potluck at the church on the 13th. We wouldn’t have had those souvenir pictures if he hadn’t been there. The next days he filled holes in the walls, patched & painted to get ready for the moving out inspection on Friday the 18th .
On Thursday the 17th the Salvation Army was supposed to come and pick up things we had to give away. The only time they come to our area of Brussels is on Thursday afternoons. On Thursday morning, about the time Jeff was flying out of Brussels, it started snowing. By Thursday afternoon cars were unable to get up the hill to where we lived. Folks from the church that were to pick up items called to say that they couldn’t adventure out. The driver of the Salvation Army truck tried for about an hour and then walked up to say he couldn’t make it that day, but would come back after work with his station wagon. He came later but still couldn’t get up the hill. I was to let him know if on Friday anyone made it up the hill that morning. Friday morning all the things for the church folks we loaded up in an elder’s car as well as an OM (Operation Mobilization) station wagon which Jim drove over to the OM headquarters. The Salvation Army driver called, and he and two other guys came about 3:30pm, just before the 4:00pm inspection appointment. A elderly couple came to help us. She at 80 was vacuuming the floor and mopping. We almost finished the last of the work as the inspector arrived and gave us the clearance. We said good-bye to some of our neighbors and then went off to someone’s house for supper. That evening I finished repacking my suitcases and ventured out to say good-bye to the neighbors who weren’t home previously. One neighbor was sad that I hadn’t brought our dog Roxie to say good-bye, but by that time both Jim and Roxie were in bed. I gave each of the neighbors with whom we had the most contact a book with the overview of the plan of salvation throughout the Bible & included a few words and our address in Spokane along with our email address.
On Saturday we had an hour delay in flying out of Brussels. I was a bit concerned that we might miss our flight out of Atlanta to Greenville. But I had asked for a wheelchair for Jim (as a friend had suggested doing). That made it much simpler in many ways… we were put up to the front of the line or in the business class line for boarding. Also I didn’t know how alone I would juggle 2 carry-ons, Jim’s CPAP machine & another little bag of his, my computer, and the dog! One time I piled most of it including the dog on Jim’s lap in the wheelchair. What a sight that was. That is all behind us now! Whew!
How good it is to be with the family here in South Carolina! Jean-Michel was to have been the first to arrive here on Friday. He got as far as Chicago but couldn’t get his flight out and had to stay overnight there. We arrived on Saturday evening. Then Jerry arrived about 4 hours after us. John ended up getting a flight into Charlotte, NC; that flight was late, so Jeff and Jerry took a nap in the car and finally got John picked up about 1pm and they all made the 2 hour trip by car back home, arriving about 3am at Jeff’s. At the present we are all at a cabin (that sleeps 10) for 2 nights in a state park here. I will send this when I get back and connected to internet at Jeff’s house.
Jim’s a bit tired with all the move and excitement. Also he has had an allergic reaction to one or more of the medications he is taking. The doctor thought it might be the medicine for the stent, so he put him on a different medication. The rash on his back seemed to lessen, but then he got a rash on the inside of his arms and hands. He tried going back to the first medicine, but is still having trouble. The medicines for the stent are to end on Christmas day. We will see if the rashes start diminishing then. Or maybe it has been the cholesterol medicine. ?? Thank you for continuing to pray for him.
We are grateful for all your prayers and grateful to the Lord how everything came together and for all the help we had, which included many meals from the folks at church.
John & Jerry will spend the week here and then head back to Spokane on the 26th. We fly out on Saturday January 2nd and arrive back in Spokane at 3:58pm on Delta Flight #4566 via Salt Lake City.
May you have a wonderful Christmas. Jesus is the reason for the season. May He be lifted up.
Because of His love and grace,
Millie (& Jim)
Psalm 33 v.20-22 "We wait in hope for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. In Him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in His holy name. May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in You."
